Vine on Android Gets New iOS-Style Updates
The Twitter application Vine on Android was recently given the most significant update since being released. The update brings the software in line with what has been available for those using it on Apple iOS devices.
Vine is the Twitter-owned app available for creating short six-second video clips that can then be shared on its social networking service. It was first available for iOS devices and released for Android on June 3, 2013. The Android release did not have all of the features that are available for iOS devices until this recent update.
The major features of the update consist of a capture widget, 15 new channels, revining capability, and new camera tools. There are other changes within the latest update as well.
By adding a home screen capture widget to the app, it takes on a feature not found on the iOS product. The capture widget appears on the home screen and allows a user to start a six-second video recording without having to make several clicks as is the case with the Instagram photo and video sharing product that became available for Android phones in 2012.
What makes the capture widget popular is having the ability to quickly begin video recording thus making it a useful tool for catching one-of-kind moments. The video can then be easily shared on Twitter.
In addition to the capture widget, new photo tools were added to the app. These tools include the ability to enable an alignment grid while capturing plus tools for ghosting and focusing.
The ghosting tool allows positioning of the next capture shot with a ghost-like image of a previous one. One of the uses of ghosting is making videos that shorten longer time spans into a six-second clip.
Revining allows users to share on their Twitter feeds Vine clips that were taken by others. This feature is much the same as retweeting except using these short video clips.
They also added 15 channels to the app allowing a user to organize vines into theme categories. These new channels also come with their own feeds showing videos that are currently popular.
Vine is available for free from the Google Play store and for Android 4.0 and above.
