Trump, SAG Ties Dissolve After Belligerent Letter From Former President
The Screen Actors Guild committee and former president Donald Trump have gone their separate ways through a long-winded, contentious letter.
Upon hearing the union was considering disciplinary measures over the Jan. 6 insurrection that left five people dead including a Capitol police officer, Trump wrote the union had done nothing for him.
He chastised the union president Gabrielle Carteris for worrying about the dues and endorsing un-American ideas and policies. Trump lavished himself with praise, celebrating small cameo roles, such as Home Alone 2, and helping numerous cable TV businesses such as Fox.
Trump wrote, “Who cares!” to the disciplinary committee. He said he was not familiar with their work but proud of all the work he has done. This included what he called successful shows such as The Apprentice.
Trump said SAG was only trying to get free media attention to divert attention away from their dismal record. He said he was immediately resigning from the SAG-AFTRA.
David White, the union’s National Executive Director, levied the charges against Trump on a request made by Carteris. White had asked that Trump be expelled. He wrote the former president disgraced all the values the union feels are sacred such as democracy, sanctity of free press, etc.
The union, upon hearing about the resignation, released a two-word statement, “Thank you.”
