Tom Hanks Surprises California Girl Scout Troops
A California Girl Scout troop got a little help from “Forrest Gump” – something they’re bound not to forget anytime soon.
Tom Hanks choose to purchase five boxes of cookies from the troop, raising their spirits. And, when he purchased his own, Hanks helped them to get more people to buy their cookies.
The incident happened on Feb. 28 (although it’s just now being reported), when Anushka Srinvasan asked a man if he wanted to buy some Girl Scout cookies. Her mom Archana Appanna took out her phone and started snapping pictures when she realized who she was taking pictures of.
Appanna said he proudly showed off his purchases from the Girl Scouts in the picture.
She said her daughter wasn’t focused on Hanks; just on making a sale. Anushka said she was intent on selling cookies.
A few onlookers wanted their own picture with the “Gump” when Hanks decided he’d sell a few boxes himself. Anushka said Hanks told a family if they wanted a picture with him, they had to purchase Girl Scouts cookies from the girls.
The incident took place when Hanks was visiting his son Truman, who is a freshman at Stanford University. He happened to be going to the Los Altos Business Machines store, a place where vintage typewriters are sold and repaired, when he saw the girls.
Before leaving, Hanks threw the troop girls an additional $20.
As for the whole incident, the girls were excited that got to meet “Woody” from Pixar’s Toy Story. As for Appanna, she was excited she got to meet Forrest Gump… and both have made plans on what Tom Hanks movies they want to watch during Spring Break.
