Taylor Swift Donates $50,000 to a Fan Battling Cancer
Taylor Swift donated $50,000 to a young fan fighting blood cancer, proving yet again that she values her fans dearly.
Naomi Oakes was diagnosed in late June with acute myelogenous leukemia and the Swift fan is to miss out on the upcoming Taylor Swift concert in Arizona as she is expected to be hospitalized for at least 6 months. She loves Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” song so much, it is now her anthem in the fight against cancer. The 11-year-old sang her anthem on her way to the hospital.
Oakes’ family published a youtube video with her story and requested a hashtag #TeamNaomi on Instagram, hoping that it might catch the attention of Taylor Swift. It did.
Taylor Swift’s donation was made in a series of remittances on the girl’s GoFundMe page. Swift also made a beautiful note with every payment she made, “To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts. Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
The girl’s reaction to her unexpected surprise can be seen in this video.
The generosity of Taylor Swift ensured the “Swiftie” received almost double the amount of what the family initially hoped to raise for covering medical expenses.
Taylor Swift is known for her generosity towards fans, showering gifts and lending a helping hand for the needy. It was only very recently that Taylor Swift donated $15,000 to a Texas firefighter.
