Sons of Anarchy Supporting Actor Dead, Suspect In Neighborhood Killing
“Sons of Anarchy” supporting star actor Johnny Lewis, 28, died Sept. 26 in a neighborhood in Los Angeles where he is also suspected to have killed an 81-year-old woman he had rented a room from.
According to officials, police officers responded to a distress call – a woman yelling loudly in the rich Los Feliz section. In the home, they found Catherine Davis dead.
Officer Cleon Joseph, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman, said Lewis was recently released from jail and was also found dead in the driveway, either jumping off or falling from the roof.
Joseph said the circumstances surrounding the deaths are still being looked into. However, detectives feel Lewis committed the murder then killed himself but do not understand the motive behind the killing.
According to Jane Robinson, spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office, last month, Lewis pled guilty to assault with a deadly weapon in a Los Angeles-area court. In a separate case, he pled no contest to an attempted burglary. In both cases, he was sentenced to spend time behind bars. On Sept. 21, he was released from custody. It remains unclear why Lewis was released and how much of the sentence is actually served.
Lewis’s character on “Sons of Anarchy” was Kip “Half Sack” Epps, which was a supporting role for the television drama’s first two seasons. The show is about an outlaw motorcycle club, and Lewis’ character was an Iraq War veteran who often associates with and talks to the biker club.
Lewis also had recurring roles on both “The O.C.” and “Boston Public”.
“Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter said the death of Lewis was tragic, as Lewis was tremendously talented even though he lost his way. Sutter also said he wasn’t too surprised by Sept. 26’s events but was sad to hear that someone innocent was also in the cross-fire.
