Saints Ex-Defensive Coordinator Finds New Home In Buffalo
Rob Ryan, ex-defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints, has found a new home… under the wing of his twin brother Rex Ryan, who’s the coach of the Buffalo Bills.
According to the Bills announcement, Rob Ryan will be an assistant head coach with responsibility for the team’s defense. This will be the second time the brothers have worked alongside one another. They were assistants on their dad’s Buddy Ryan’s team – Arizona Cardinals.
Rex Ryan said he was excited to have his brother join the staff, and believes he’ll be a wonderful asset to the team’s defensive line. He already has a lot of working knowledge of the team’s tactics, and Rex said he’s looking forward to what Rob has to say about it all.
Rex said personally the brothers looked forward to working with each other again.
The move to hire Rob is on the heels of the Florida trip and talk with the Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula for their team’s end-of-the-season meetings.
What does this mean for Dennis Thurman, the team’s current defensive coordinator? It’s not clear. Rex didn’t mention anything specific about Thurman but did say they would wait to talk with the coaches. He said some coaches may want to say while others may want to go.
In December, Rob spent time with the team’s coaching staff and wore their team-issued gear before the game against the Eagles (Philadelphia).
Preston Brown, Bills linebacker, said it was great to have Rob out there. He said it was weird because the brothers have the same voice. He said the team often mistakes one brother for the other when they hear the voices.
No other staffing changes were announced by the Bills.
