Popular “Sam & Cat” Show May Not Be Renewed For Second Season
Although “Sam & Cat” was voted Favorite TV show during the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards March 29, the series faces some uncertainty after a scandal involving one of its stars.
Jeannette McCurdy, who plays Sam, on the hit TV show, had a scantily clad selfie she took leaked onto the Internet last month. In the picture, she wore only a bra and thong. Rumors were circulating that the popular TV show could be cancelled and production on the show was already stopped.
Of course, the show’s cancellation may not be just because of the selfie controversy. McCurdy is upset with the network; one of the reasons she boycotted this year’s KCA. She tweeted to fans, giving her apologies but blamed the network for her not being there. McCurdy said the decision not to go to the KCA was not due to the leaked photos but the unfair and uncomfortable position she has been placed in. McCurdy said she had to look out for herself.
Despite her assurances that the issue didn’t involve the leaked photos, fans assumed that’s what she meant. McCurdy later elucidated that it was how the network for treating her. According to various reports, McCurdy has been fighting with co-star Ariana Grande.
Nickelodeon has denied the cancellation possibility for Sam & Cat and that the production of the show was halted for reasons not related to the photo controversy. A representative of the network said everyone respects McCurdy and that the show was concluding a rather long production cycle. Everybody is tired, the representative said.
McCurdy’s reputation isn’t the first to be ruined by private images being leaked online. In 2007 and again in 2011, Vanessa Hudgens had a similar embarrassing episode. She talked about the experience and said at least some folks have learned from my mistakes. Unfortunately, McCurdy didn’t learn it.
However, McCurdy is not sure who leaked the photos. In September 2013, she briefly dated Andre Drummond, an NBA player. McCurdy had tweeted that he possibly leaked the photos because they had no sparks. However, Drummond has strongly denied any involvement in the leakage.
