Peterson May Face Longer Deactivation From Vikings
Minnesota Vikings deactivated Adrian Peterson from its Sunday game against the New England Patriots after he was accused of reckless or negligent injury to a child in Texas. However, this deactivation of the running back could extend beyond the Sunday game.
According to Ian Rapoport, an NFL media insider, a Vikings source said the outcome of the organization investigation could extend Peterson’s deactivation beyond a week. While the Vikings have heard what Peterson had to say about the matter, they are still gathering information about they learned charges were coming against the player.
Rick Spielman, general manager, said the team is taking things an hour at a time, and the team wasn’t sure if they’d be posting more videos or pictures in their near future.
Another organization member said the decision to deactivate Peterson from the game on Sunday was in part of the current situation revolving Ray Rice’s indefinite suspicion for hitting his then-fiancé in an elevator. Videotape of the incident hit the media last week.
Spielman said facts about the case will be needed for a decision regarding a team suspension or his official release will be made.
Rapoport said the Vikings’ brass hopes a final decision regarding the status of Peterson will be done this week.
Brian McCarthy, a spokesman with the NFL, said the Peterson case is being looked at under the personal conduct policy the league implemented.
Peterson was booked into the Montgomery County jail and released after he posted a $15,000 bond. If found guilty, Peterson could spend two years behind bars in jail and pay a $10,000 fine, although he could get probation.
In Texas, parents are allowed to punish their children as they deem necessary except if it goes beyond what the community sees as reasonable. It’s alleged that the little four-year-old boy was whooped with a switch and suffered bruising on his ankles, back, buttocks and legs, as punishment for pushing another child down.
