Pakistani Police No Longer Seek 9-Month Old Baby In Stoning Incident
The 9-month old boy in Pakistan who had his fingerprints taken by police due to an attempted murder charge is no longer being sought after. That’s according to a lawyer of the family.
Just days before, the baby was crying as he was getting his fingerprints taken in Lahore after several of his family members supposedly threw bricks at police who were trying to get money for a bill that had not been paid.
According to Lahore’s senior police official Atif Zulfikar, it all began on Feb. 1 when a bailiff and several officers went the home to collect a gas bill payment.
A fight broke out, and the child’s father, older brother and several other residence members tossed bricks at the officials, severely injuring some of them. This incident led authorities to seek those inside the home, including the baby. The charges include attempted murder and stoning.
It’s not known why the baby had been implicated in the incident but Lahore police do confirm that the child was in court and booked while his grandfather held onto him.
However, after the media caught wind of the incident, Shahbaz Shariff, Punjab chief minister, told police to instantly suspend a Pakistani official who registered the case against the child.
