Over 20 Students and Teachers Hurt After Classmate Goes On Stabbing Rampage
More than 20 students and adults were injured after a fellow student went from classroom to classroom in a Murrysville high school, which is located about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh, and slashed and stabbed them before being apprehended.
Officials were not sure about the seriousness of those injured. However, four students had been airlifted to local hospital from the Franklin Region High School.
It’s not clear what caused the student to start the stabbing or if he used a knife or some other kind of sharp object as the weapon.
According to Westermoreland County Department of Public Safety spokesman Dan Stevens, four of the 20 who were injured were in serious condition. He said the majority of the injuries were stab wounds to the extremities.
According to Forbes Regional Hospital Director of Trauma, Dr. Christoph Kaufmann one adult and seven teenagers were bought and admitted into the hospital.
Kaufmann said two patients were in surgery with a third on their way to the operating room.
Stevens said the assailant student started slashing and stabbing students and adults in their classrooms, chasing them into the halls just after classes began at 7 a.m. for about 15 minutes.
According to the school district’s website, “A critical incident has occurred at the high school. All elementary schools are canceled; the middle school and high school students are secure.”
