Kraft Issues Recall For Velveeta Cheese Products With Low Preservative Levels
Kraft issued a recall June 19 in 12 states for some of its Velveeta cheese products.
Kraft Food Group said the recall is small and affects a limited amount of products, which were shipped to Wal-Mart stores in Wisconsin, South Dakota, Ohio, North Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois and Colorado.
The affected Velveeta cheese products that have the “original pasteurized recipe” are being recalled because they have a minute amount of the necessary preservative “sorbic acid” that helps to ensure the cheese doesn’t spoil and result in food-borne illnesses.
Kraft, in their press release, states the recall is a part of an “isolated” incident and is being made voluntarily after they spotted several “Velveeta original pasteurized recipe cheese products” with low preservative levels”. They said they didn’t think the product could result in a food-borne illness but was issuing the recall as a safety precaution.
None of the affected products are thought to be shipped outside the U.S. However, consumers are advised to check for case code time and date stamp, located on the sides of the package. Any packages with the date Dec. 17 2014 between 10:54 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. are in the recall.
This is not the first recall Kraft has issued. In Jan. the company recalled over 1.7 million pounds of ground beef due to labeling problems that overlooked certain allergen ingredients. In May, the company recalled over one million of cottage cheese cases. In 2011, it recalled Velveeta Pasta Cups because tiny bits of thin wire bristle parts were discovered in the snack.
Any person with the latest recall product should not consume it.
