Free Hepatitis A Vaccinations For Red Robin Customers In Springfield
Missouri health officials are offering free hepatitis A vaccinations for nearly 5,000 people who recently visited a Springfield restaurant.
According to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, a worker at the 3720 S. Glenstone Red Robin restaurant had the liver infection.
Any person who ate at the establishment between May 8 and May 16 is eligible to receive the immunization at 1655 W. Republic Road Thursday and Friday, and the Smith Glynn Callway Clinic Saturday through Monday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Officials said people possibly subjected to the virus must be inoculated within two weeks (14 days) in order for the vaccination to take place.
Health department spokeswoman Kathryn Wall said people could have been susceptible to the virus before May 8 but did not give an estimation of how many folks were exposed. She said possible exposure could have been as early as May 4. People should keep an eye on their health and let their healthcare providers if they notice any symptoms.
Health officials said the restaurant has been dealt with and can be safely visited.
Allyson Tuckness along with her husband and toddler ate at the restaurant on May 16. Tuckness said her toddler has had the hepatitis A vaccination. Even though she’s annoyed at the issue, she’s glad to have learned of the problem during the virus’ incubation period.
Springfield resident Kelly Lister said she’s a bit worried about it since the virus is highly contagious. Lister said she was happy her children were not with her when she and other family members visited the restaurant.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hepatitis A affects the liver and can range from mild to severe in complications.
