Franco Admits To Flirting With 17-Year-old Girl
Actor James Franco admitted he flirted with a 17-year-old girl on Friday’s “Live! With Kelly and Michael” and said the incident has embarrassed him.
Franco, 35, dealt with the issue head on after the girl leaked the text and Instagram messages online and multiple news outlets grabbed despite the fact that she deleted them.
Franco said he didn’t want to appear awkward on the show and admitted his embarrassment to it. He said it just goes to show how tricky social media can be. He said social media is an obvious way to meet people. He learned that you never know who it is you’re talking to. You meet that person in person and feel something but you never know who it is you’re talking to. Franco said he learned his lesson, using bad judgment.
According to the messages, Franco tried to meet up with a girl at a New York City hotel even when she informed him that she was not 18 years old yet. The actor sent the teen pictures of himself so that she’d know that she was actually talking to him.
While the age of consent is 17 in the state of New York and Franco wasn’t doing anything illegal, fans were perturbed with the actions. He said he’s very embarrassed by the actions, and more so since the published words and pictures can be seen around the world.
Both Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa commended him for dealing with the controversy and addressing the critics.
Strahan said honesty was certainly the best course of action and he appreciates that.
