Facebook Mugshot Hottie Has Previous Conviction, Served Time In State Prison
When Jeremy Meeks’ mugshot hit the Internet Thursday, he never expected to see such a backlash of support from women all around the world. The Stockton Police Department has charged the 30-year-old with illegally possessing a firearm along with gun and gang-related charges.
The release of the mugshot is part of a law enforcement operation… one of which many agencies around the nation are using. And, not too long after Meeks’ photo hit the Internet, a Facebook fan page was created for him, which garnered more than 39,000 likes. The Facebook page for the arresting agency also went viral, hitting close to 50,000 likes. By Friday morning, the post had 14,700 comments and more than 5,000 shares.
The district attorney’s office in San Joaquin County released the circumstances of why the sudden Internet “hunk” was arrested.
Stockton police stopped Meeks around 6:30 a.m. Thursday after he and several others were spotted leaving a home where an execution of a search warrant was about to happen. Meeks was a driver of a vehicle that had two passengers. One passenger, Terry Bailey, 23, was on probation and is also facing charges similar to Meeks.
According to prosecutors, the officers searched Meek’s car along with the passenger compartment and uncovered a 9mm round and loaded semiautomatic handgun. They also found two extended gun magazines.
Meeks’ bail is set for $1 million.
Katherine Angier, Meeks’ mother, has created a fundraising page due mainly to dispel her son’s stereotypes and partly to help fund his legal defense ($25,000). On her “Free Jeremy” page, she asked for help to ensure he gets a fair trial or feels he’s going to be railroaded.
In 2002, Meeks served two years in a state prison for a grand theft auto conviction in Solano County.
Meeks gave an interview about the media attention, saying he wants to let people know that this isn’t really him. He said his wife visited him and told him he blew up on Facebook.
Many of the comments made are from women who said Meeks was hot and gorgeous. Many of them offered to help get him out of jail.
Meeks is set to appear in court on June 27.
