Escalona Gets 99 Years Behind Bars For Super Gluing Daughter’s Hands To Wall
A 23-year-old Dallas mother was recently sentenced to 99 years behind bars for beating and super gluing her two-year-old daughter’s hands to a wall.
Elizabeth Escalona entered a guilty plea in July to the charge of felony injury to a child – after her other children told police that their mother hit Jocelyn with a milk jug and kicked the little girl in the stomach in September 2011, all over a potty training incident.
According to the little girl’s doctor, the toddler had a brain bleed, many bruises, a fractured rib, bite marks and was in a coma for at least two days. The doctor said there were traces of white paint chips and glue residue on the little girl’s hand. Some of the skin had also been torn away from the area.
Eren Price, Dallas County prosecutor, said Escalona had not assumed any responsibility for her actions. Price told the court that only a monster would do something this cruel to a child.
Larry Mitchell, state district judge, told Escalona she beat her child close to death and she must be punished for the crime.
Escalona had asked the court for leniency, saying she’d never forgive herself for treating her child like she did. Escalona was facing, if convicted, a sentence of probation to life in person. Prosecutors had originally sought a 45-year prison sentence. But, while doing the closing arguments, Price said she’d like to see the mother sentence to life behind bars.
Angie N’Duka, Escalona’s defense attorney, reiterated that the young mother wasn’t a monster and deserved to be given a short sentence or probation. During closing arguments, she said Escalona could be redeemed.
Melanie Davis, a counselor, testified that Escalona’s sessions with her revealed that she does love all her children and more counseling could be beneficial. She said the mother had set up short and long term goals including getting a job and getting her children back.
After the sentence was given, Escalona asked the court what would happen to her other children. Currently, the five children – including Jocelyn – are in the care of their grandmother.
N’Duka said she has plans to appeal. At this time, Escalona can seek parole in 30 years.

Just one more example of the irony that you need a license to fish, to hunt, to drive, for your dog…but not to bring children into this world.
The prosecutor and the entire jury need to be put in prison for STUPIDITY!
If this is charged as a capital murder, then one may face 5 to 99 years in prison. If this is a non-capital murder charge, then one may face from 2 to 20 years in prison for a second degree felony.
If one proves at trial that a death was caused while he was under the immediate influence of sudden passion, then the jury can punish the crime as a third degree felony, carrying 2 to 10 years in prison.
she loves her children to death, and we (taxpayers) provided her defence attorney.
and those cheeky bas… even ready to defence her, these attorney will do ANYTHING for money.
Im glad she received a harsh sentence. This is a great example of justice being served. I understand how difficult it can be raising children as a young person and maybe she was stressed out. That’s why you shouldn’t have 5 freaking kids if you can’t handle them or don’t have the support to raise them properly. She blantly aused the toddler and I’m quite sure she abused the other kids too. Now with this dipicable excuse of a mother out of the picture maybe the kids have a shot at a decent life.
Texas is one messed up state. The principal at school can beat your kiss. A disturbed mother does and they throw her away. They wear out electric chairs and give us Presidents who start wars. I for one wouldn’t mind giving Texas back to the Mexicans.
And Jerry Sandusky gets 30 years for raping multiple children? This country is a joke. Did she get 99 because she is Spanish and a woman, and he gets 30 because he is a big white football coach? Disgusting. Give him the 99 years and her the 30. Its perverse otherwise.
While she is a monster and did unforgivable things to her child, if she had just
murdered her child she would have received a lesser sentence than 99 yrs.
Gul, I remember reading that even though the law allowed the judge to sentence Sandusky to hundreds of years, he gave him 30 years and considered it equivalent to a life term for him, because he’s already in his 60s.
Jerry Sandusky is 68 yrs old with his 30 yr sentence, that is life in prison. Do you want to give him more than life in prison? I agree with you about this woman sentence. The sentence is totally rediculous.
I think it’s justice serverd. The mom is not the victim, it’s the two year old defenseless baby that was beaten, kicked and glued to a wall. This women was in the proccess of fording socalpaths and was stopped. You bring up examples of animals like Sandusky getting a light sentence to bolster your case that this women should be let off light. That’s backwards thinking, you should be saying this is the sentence Sandusky should have gotten and more. I am glad they locked this dog up for 99 years. Texas is a great state!
Dear Ted Ackley, wow, you are one man that takes the word “Enlighten” to another level. I was born and raised in Texas and I’m sure proud of it. Yes, if you screw up in Texas your going to be punished (except rock stars, politicians and usually women) but that’s going to happen in every state. If you get the death penalty for some awful crime guess what?… Your going to die (and the “wearing out of the chair” well just another thing you have no idea of what your talking about, it’s the needle down here buddy.) We make no apologies for “Not Playing Games” with scum, maybe something the Liberal states in America should look at. Nope, were not California or even New York, we are a state of real men and women with strict laws on certain crimes and we want it like that. Nope, we are by no means perfect, but who is?
And the remark about giving Texas back to the Mexicans? Well, you ain’t giving shit back to anyone, we as Texans fought (and other true Americans) for this state and guess what, you will need to bring your army because there will be a fight! Just ask the presidents we have supplied to America over the years.
This is one of the dumbest travesties of justice ever. $50,000 * 99 = $4,950,000, $50,000 * 30 = $1,500,000, paid by the state to keep a mother away from her, now effectively orphaned, children for at least the remainder of their childhood and young adulthood, and punish the grandmother who is now forced to bring up her grandchildren, whether she wants to or not. If you punish dumb people who in the heat of the moment lose control, in a way that doesn’t lead to loss of life, in the same way as serial killers, how can you argue that one offence is worse than the other?
In Texas, capital murder is punishable by LIFE OR DEATH only. 1st degree felonies are punishable for 5 to 99 years. She got what she deserved.
Don’t be an idiot Ted. YOU OR ANYONE ELSE HAVE NO POWER IN GIVING TEXAS BACK TO MEXICO. Texas can secede from the Union And you can get your oil elsewhere.
Sadly, this woman, who appears to be raising 5 children alone, and is without the means to afford private legal counsel, is the victim of the ridiculousness of our flawed legal system. She made horrible judgement calls with the toddler. Now she knows. Counseling and reasonable monitoring of the home situation would seem like a more appropriate penalty than the fiasco of a sentence handed down. Compare her crime to others who were doled out the same sentence. Something is clearly amiss. The application of justice and common sense were absent in this case.
As far as Sandusky is concerened, he was tried in a Lib state. That’s the problem.
Who “forced” her to have 5 kids? Abstinence works wonders. They call ’em anchor babies here.
