Cruise, Magazine Publisher Settle Lawsuit, Agreement Terms Confidential
Two reports that stated actor Tom Cruise cut ties with his daughter after his split with Katie Holmes has landed two tabloid magazines in hot water. Cruise, who filed a lawsuit against In Touch and Life & Style, has reached a settlement according to the publisher.
In a joint statement, Cruise’s attorney and Bauer Publishing said the settlement terms were confidential.
In a statement from Bauer Publishing, along with Touch and Life & Style magazines, did not intend to insinuate that Cruise had completely abandoned Suri, his daughter and regrets that anybody thought that’s what the magazines implied when they published the stories.
Cruise filed a lawsuit against the company in October 2012 for stories it had published in both its In Touch and Life & Style magazines in 2012, which had claimed he had not had any contact with Suri for week after he divorced actress Holmes. The lawsuit sought tens of millions of dollars for the damages.
Cruise’s attorney Bert Fields, said the stories were outlandish and that Cruise frequently spoke with his daughter while he worked on two movie shoots that were shot overseas.
In a declaration that was filed in November, Cruise dismissed the claim that he abandoned Suri, as the stories had suggested.
Cruise said he has not cut Suri from his life – financially, emotionally or physically – and even though he worked tirelessly on films during the second part of 2012, he spoke with Suri practically every day and was updated regularly about her from Holmes.
