Colorado Police Suspect Jessica Ridgeway Was Abducted, No Person Of Interest
Authorities looking for 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway of Westminster, Colo. said they think the little girl was abducted and that her parents are not involved with the abduction.
The last time anyone saw Jessica was Friday morning when she left home to meet some friends so they could walk to school with each other.
The last time Jessica was seen was Friday morning after she left home to meet her friends at a park so the kids could walk to school with each other.
Trevor Materasso, Westminster police spokesman, said police are confident the little girl was taken by an unidentified suspect. The case is focused on that and not her cooperating parents.
Materasso said the police are confident they’re not involved with the disappearance.
Police are looking at all tips coming in including one from Maine where a woman said she saw a girl who resembled Jessica on Sunday. Hundreds of tips are coming in from Nevada, Wyoming, Texas and Maryland and are being routed to investigators in Westminster.
While no new details were released, police said earlier they were looking into the possibility that Jessica’s disappearance was tied to a Cody, Wyo. abduction involving another little girl.
In the Wyoming case, an 11-year-old girl was lured into a SUV by an older 55 to 60 year old white man. He has short white or strawberry blond hair with a tidily trimmed mustache. The little girl was released after four hours, after which hunters found her.
Jessica’s backpack was located six miles north of her home on a neighborhood sidewalk two days after her abduction. Police won’t comment on what they found inside or what testing results have shown.
On the day police found the backpack, a woman in Dexter, Maine told police she saw Jessica in a Blue Buick station wagon, which had a Colorado license plate.
Police have no clue if it was Jessica or not. However, a statewide alert was issued for all officers to stop the vehicle if they see it. To date, none has been stopped. There was no license plate number given.
Materasso said many searchers were looking around Jessica’s neighborhood; divers are looking in ponds just as a precaution and to rule them out as being connected to her disappearance. Police have, as another precaution, set aside the landfill garbage that was collected about the time Jessica was taken. Police will only go through it if evidence points them that way.
Little has been released by police in regards to their investigation, trying to keep focus on the little girl. The public has been asked to look at her face through various released photos, with and without her wearing glasses. People are also asked to tweet about Jessica, with the hope new leads will come along.
While there have been many tips, no person of interest has been identified.
Jessica mother and father, Sarah Ridgeway, who lives in Westminster, and Jeremiah Bryant, who lives in Independence, Mo., pleaded with the public to help them locate Jessica.
