Cheese Recall On Listeria Outbreak: 6 Sickened, 1 Dead, 1 Miscarriage
A June listeria outbreak that has made six people sick – one of them fatally, another suffering a miscarriage – has been traced back to Crave Brothers cheese, which is sold in Kroger and Whole Foods stores all across the nation.
The Food and Drug Administration said the affected states include Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, and all of them infected were done so by the same listeriosis strain. The Wisconsin-producer Crave Brothers Farmstead Classics makes the Les Freres cheese and is sold in various Midwestern restaurants and grocery stores. The affected lots being recalled are:
– Les Freres (LF225 2/2.5#) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in white plastic with a green and gold label.
– Petit Frere (PF88 8/8 oz.) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes.
– Petit Frere with Truffles (PF88T 8/8 oz.) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes.
Listeriosis symptoms can appear 70 days after exposure in the following ways: fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, loss of balance, confusion and convulsions. Any person who has eaten this cheese and is suffering from the above symptoms should see their doctor immediately.
