BMW Recalls 42,000 Vehicles Due To Airbag Issue
42,000 BMW vehicles are being recalled due to an issue with the German carmaker’s airbags, which were produced by the Japan-based Takata Group between 2001 and 2002.
The defective airbags are in the 2002 and 2003 “3 series” BMW vehicles, and are fitted onto the front passenger side. In a collision, the airbags won’t properly inflate.
According to Julian Arguelles, a BMW spokesman, there hasn’t been a problem reported just yet but it is a problem that must be dealt with.
BMW’s recall joins Honda, Nissan and Toyota’s recall of approximately three million vehicles for the same issue. Honda recalled 1.14 million vehicles and 1.73 million of Toyota vehicles were recalled.
BMW will replace the airbags at no cost to the owner.
