Blizzard Announces Two Soon-To-Be Released Expansion and Games
A fifth expansion of Blizzard’s popular World of WarCraft online game is being released. Known as Warlords of Draenor, the game will get a new world that allows players to create settlements and immediately increase a character’s level.
Blizzard’s announcement comes on the heels of WoW’s players’ number hitting a five-year slump and the company groups players on a small amount of servers. It also announced it’s in the process of releasing a new game known as Heroes of the Storm.
Warlords of Draenor details were released at the yearly Blizzcon gaming convention. The expansion entails a time-traveling storyline that allows players to re-enact some events from the WarCraft strategy games that came before WoW. It’s set on Draenor and provides players with dungeons, zones and instances to play. “Warlords” allows characters to play at level 100, give garrisons (player settlements) and enhance the look of several of the different races.
Blizzard said Warlords’ buyers can increase on character to level 90, allowing them to automatically adventure in the expansion world. There has been no release date for Warlords.
Blizzard’s news of the release is coming just after news that WoW subscriber numbers are down to approximately 7.7 million. In 2007, WoW numbers were about this low; but, in 2010, the numbers reached to around 12 million.
Blizzard, to deal with the drop, uses a system that allows people to play along servers that maintain the game’s economy, arena battle system that have enough folks playing to keep them going and player-vs.-player areas.
Heroes of the Storm was also announced at Blizzcon, which is an arena-based hero brawling game, allowing people to control primary characters from most games Blizzard has developed – Diablo and StarCraft included. Heroes come together and work as teams to fight opponents for dominance of one of the maps.
A Heroes’ beta test is currently being conducted and a release should be soon.
