Tip Top Poultry Issues Urgent Recall Of Chicken Products
If you have chicken in your freezer, take it out and look at it now. There’s been a recall of Tip Top Poultry’s cooked, hot deboned fowl meat due to the potential of a Listeria contamination.
Already recalled, the company expanded it by includes stores such as ALDI, Food Lion, Kroger and Piggly Wiggly. In the original recall, the company announced an unknown amount of ready-to-eat chicken products that included frozen diced, shredded and cooked chicken, which has been distributed by Sysco, Perdue and Butterball, were being recalled.
The products affected in the recall were produced at the Rockmart, Georgia facility between Jan. 22, 2019 and Sept. 24, 2019.
According to Tip Top Poultry, it’s poultry cooking line was being shut down until the contamination source was found, addressed and taken care of completely.
Brad Prespess, Tip Top Poultry owner, said the company is a family business and takes all food safety seriously since it is so detrimental to the health of their own family and friends, along with consumers.
What Are The Symptoms Of Listeriosis
Food that has the listeria bacteria in it can lead to listeriosis, a serious infection that affects those with a compromised immune system, older adults, newborns and pregnant women. The infection can cause either a bloodstream infection or a brain infection but is treatable using antibiotics.
Listeriosis symptoms include diarrhea, fever, headaches and muscle aches. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests anyone who believes they have eaten the contaminated chicken should visit their doctor and make them are of any symptoms they may have.
An updated recall alert has been issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service that includes a complete list of the retailers that are affected by the recall. According to the news release, no consumers or institutions with the affected items in their hands should use them.
Affected chicken products should be taken back to where it was purchased on thrown out.
