Your Poop May Indicate The Effectiveness Of Your Diet
Did you know that your diet may be affected by the poop that’s in your intestines?
According to a study that looked at stool samples and is published in the International Journal of Obesity, a diet’s success may be the result of the bacteria in a person’s gut.
62 overweight participants were involved in the study conducted by Danish researchers. These researchers looked at the ratio of bacteria called Prevotella and Bacteroids. The participants had to stick to a diet for 26 weeks – either the typical Danish diet or the New Nordic Diet, which is a high-fiber diet.
According to the study, participants lost seven pounds more while on the New Nordic Diet, with a high ratio of Prevotella to Bacteroids in their intestines. No major difference was seen in the two diets when there was a low bacteria ratio.
The results are a demonstration that a person’s biochemistry is likely to boost weight loss than a standard diet.
Study co-author Mads F. Hjorth said the study notes that half of the population would, if they followed the Danish national dietary recommendations and consume more fruits, fiber, vegetables and whole grains, drop the weight.
He said the other half of the population doesn’t appear to see any benefits from a diet change and need to focus on various strategies until they find one that will help them to drop the weight.
