Lucasfilm Makes Rare Announcement To Squash Carrie Fisher Rumors

Star Wars makers were quick to address the rumors about Princess Leia, after the heartbreaking death of Carrie Fisher in 2016.

Lucasfilm, which rarely responds to rumors and speculations, said it would not and has no plans to digitally recreate Fisher in future episodes of the popular movie saga.

In a company statement, it said there was a rumor going around they needed to respond to. The company wants to assure its fans that Lucasfilm will not digitally recreate Fisher’s performance either as General or Princess Leia Organa.

In Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Fisher played the famous Princess once again. She took the role on again in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is set for release in December 2017.

Fisher died Dec. 27 from cardiac arrest.

Although Fisher was set to reprise her role in Episode IX, which is set to be released in 2019, the film is still being written, and writers are trying to figure out how to address Fisher’s death.

Much of the speculation is due from the brief appearance of a 1977 Fisher during Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was recently released to the public. That film also brought back a digitized version of Grand Moff Tarkin, played by Peter Cushing, who died in 1994.

The adaptations of both Cushing and Fisher had mixed reviews – some loved it; others hated it because they felt the characters were cartoonish-looking or distracted from the movie.

John Knoll is the effects expert that came up with the revitalized characters’ idea. He said Fisher loved how she appeared in Rogue One. Her presence was just a short shot with one word spoken.

However, Lucasfilm is insistent that Episode VIII is going to be Fisher’s final appearance in the saga. The company said Carrie Fisher is going to always be a part of the Lucasfilm family – its princess, its general and its friend. Lucasfilm said the company would cherish her legacy and memory as Princess Leia, and honor everything she provided to the Star Wars saga.
