Actress To Play “The Patriot” Youngest Daughter Dead at 21
Skye McCole Bartusiak, who was cast as Susan Martin in Mel Gibson’s 2000 The Patriot, passed away Saturday from unknown causes in Houston, Texas. She was 21.
Bartusiak’s mother said her daughter suffered with epileptic seizures and had been suffering them for a big part of her life. She said they hit her again just this previous week.
Before she was cast in The Patriot, the 21-year-old started her acting career has the 6-year-old in The Cider House Rules. Bartusiak starred in many other films including but not limited to:
- 2001 – Don’t Say A Word (actor Michael Douglas)
- 2012 – Sick Boy
Bartusiak also participated in television roles, where she recently played the young Kate Austen for Lost as well as had a part in 24, House, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Judging Amy and CSI. Her first television role came in the TV Mini-series Storm of the Century where she played Pippa Hatcher.
She was also trying her hand at being a producer.
Bartusiak’s mother Helen said her daughter lived an amazing life.
TMZ.com reports the young actress was found in her garage apartment and that she may have died in her sleep. Police do not suspect foul play. An autopsy and toxicology tests are being performed to determine what Bartusiak died.
Bartusiak is the second “The Patriot” star under 30 years old to have died. Actor Heath Ledger was found dead from a prescription drug overdose in 2008. He was 28.
