Apple Receives $120M Award In Patent Case Against Samsung
Apple was recently awarded $120 million dollars against Samsung in its patent case. The jury bestowed amount is far less than the $2 billion dollars Cupertino had hoped to receive from the company.
Apple, in the meantime, will need to give the Korean electronics maker $158,400 for its own infringement.
The trial started last month, with the jury deliberating for several days before they came back with their verdict. The winnings Apple received pales in comparison that a jury awarded back in August 2012 for $1.05 billion. However, at the appeal, that number was reduced to $900 million.
The second patent case, which occurred in the same court as the first, involved devices that were not included in the previous case because of the timing.
Both companies have been fighting since 2011 when Apple filed the first suit. The legal issue hit courtrooms all around the world and isn’t likely to finish at any time in the near future.
Jurors listened to hours of testimony in this latest patent case. Testimony that included a deposition from James Maccoun, a Google lawyer, who confirmed he offered to pay some of the legal costs and damages Samsung had if the company lost its case to Cupertino.
