Pine Pays Small Fine, Subjected to 6-Month Driver’s License Suspension For New Zealand DUI Charge
Chris Pine, the Hollywood Actor and known for playing the infamous Captain Kirk in the latest “Star Trek” movies plead guilty to a drunk driving charge in New Zealand.
At a Ashburton District Court hearing, Pine, 33, was given a fine of U.S. $93 and had his driver’s license in New Zealand suspended for a period of six months.
On March 1, Pine was pulled over by policy after he went to a part, marking the finish of filming for his next movie “Z for Zachariah”, set for release next year and was done mostly in the Banks Peninsula. According to Fairfax Media, Pine admitted to police he had four vodka drinks during that time.
A blood alcohol content test revealed Pine had a 0.11 percent reading; New Zealand’s legal limit is 0.08 percent.
Pine let his attorney, Marilyn Gilchrist, enter his plea while he stood beside silently. While entering the plea, Gilchrist told the court Pine has admitted wrongdoing by drinking and driving that night. She said her client has suffered both professionally and emotionally. Gilchrist said the negative publicity has jeopardized his acting contracts.
And, the judge agreed, saying she accepts that Pine is remorseful for his actions.
Pine looked more relaxed, as he was leaving the court. Before he was driven away, he signed a couple of autographs for his fans.
The night of the arrest, Pine was at Methven’s Blue Pub with his girlfriend Iris Bjork Johannesdottir.
The pub shut down to the public a little later in the evening where 80 actors and crew came to the party. It ended around 3 a.m. March 1. According to a statement by the bar, the party never got out of control; everybody stayed in a good mood. The staff said Pine didn’t look as if he was intoxicated or intervention would have taken place.
Pine is also known for playing Jack Ryan in “Jack Ryan” Shadow Recruit”.
