$80,000 Settlement Deal Killed Over Snide Social Media Post
Patrick Snay’s daughter Dana Snay killed her dad’s and family’s chances for an $80,000 settlement deal from her father’s former employer after she bragged about it on Facebook.
According to the terms of the deal between Patrick and Miami’s Gulliver Prepatory School, the daughter broke the confidentiality agreement after she posted the social media message about the deal, saying the school would now pay for her European trip.
The 69-year-old former Gulliver headmaster sued the school for age discrimination when it refused to renew his contract. The settlement included $10,000 in backpay, $60,000 for the attorney and $80,000 for Snay to have.
Her FB post read, “”Mama and Papa Snay won the case against Gulliver. Gulliver is now officially paying for my vacation to Europe this summer. SUCK IT.”
Her message made its way among 1,200 Gulliver Facebook students and then back to the school, which claimed the post violated the agreement.
The Third District Court of Appeals agreed with the school and tossed out the discrimination ruling. According to Judge Linda Ann Wells, Snay was in violation of the terms when he told his daughter about the settlement. She said the daughter did exactly what the confidentiality agreement was supposed to keep from happening.
Patrick noted in court documents that Dana was told of the settlement due to her suffering psychological scars while a Gulliver student. Dana is a current Boston College student and was only joking about going to Europe. She no longer has her Facebook page.
Patrick, who currently works as a headmaster for a Coral Gables school, can appeal the ruling.
