Millions Losing Health Insurance under Obamacare Yet Problems with Website Continue
With the effective date of January 1, 2014 looming, an estimated 7 to 10 million Americans have been or will be given notices that their current health coverage will be dropped and they will need to sign up for Obamacare.
The reason for the involuntary cancellations by insurers is that current coverage for these people will not meet minimum standards required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The problem is that most have not been able to sign up because the website at Healthcare.gov is still plagued with problems and because price shock of the new private coverage still overwhelms Americans.
Instances of Americans who will realize 400% and higher increases in premiums cause worry as they cannot see how they will be able to pay.
One example is a 62 year-old North Carolina resident who will see his premium go from $228 to $1,208 per month under Obamacare—a 430% increase.
In addition to sharp increases in premiums, these same Americans will also realize deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses increase sharply as well.
More Americans are becoming disgusted each day especially when it was revealed that the Federal Government knew in 2010 that a large majority would have their coverage dropped due to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
The Federal Government knew about it yet President Obama told the public that they would be able to keep their same insurance and doctor if they were happy with that coverage.
A bill was introduced by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Michigan in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives named the “Keep Your Health Plan Act” which proposes to allow Americans to do what it says: keep their current health coverage and doctor.
However, with a Democrat-controlled Senate it is uncertain if that bill will be passed into law.
Another problem that is plaguing the Obamacare signup website is the dismal figures reflecting those who have signed up. It was discovered late last week that most of the successful signups are Medicaid recipients.
For example, in the State of New York it was discovered that out of 37,000 enrollees in Obamacare, almost two-thirds signed up for Medicaid.
Medicaid is part of the country’s welfare health care which means recipients will pay practically nothing in the way of premiums.
Unless the system is able to enroll premium-paying members, there will be a severe shortage of funding for the entire Obamacare program which will spell disaster for it.
