Starbucks Reaches Wi-Fi Agreement With Google

Go into any Starbucks coffee shop and you’ll get a consistent menu and free Wi-Fi. However, the popular coffee shop chain is looking to bring more to its customers – it’s just reached a deal with Google to give its customers a quicker Wi-Fi connection.

How much faster? Google’s Wi-Fi connection will be 10 times faster than the company’s AT&T wireless connection. In cities that have Google Fiber, the connection will be about 100 times quicker than before.

Over the period of 18 months, the free Wi-Fi Service will be available in the company’s 7,000 stores. No financial terms between the Wi-Fi providers and Starbuck were disclosed to the public.

Linda Mills, a spokeswoman for Starbucks, said right now, all the company’s stores are connected to the T1 line AT&T offers, reaching data speeds of 1.5 megabits. The change in Wi-Fi carriers is the company’s way of predicting customer needs and giving them faster Internet speeds like they desire.
