Taco Bell Looks To Bring Healthy Menu Options… By 2020
Popular Tex-Mex food chain Taco Bell will be making some changes to its menu so that it includes healthier options for their health-conscious consumers.
The franchise made the announcement Apr. 11 that it was currently working on an assortment of food choices that resemble balanced pickings. According to the company’s CEO Greg Creed, Taco Bell is going to test various products during 2013 and do national launches in 2014. He said it’s possible existing items could be reformulated but that the chain is going to stick by its brand.
Creed said the company isn’t going to disregard what Taco Bell is. He said the restaurant isn’t going spring big changes on its customers in the near future. Creed said the company’s goal is to ensure that 20 percent of the combo meals will meet the federal nutritional guidelines for fat and calories by the year 2020. Basically, one meal could equal to roughly a third of the recommended 2,000 to 2,500 calorie consumption.
The healthy food variety could not only be advantageous to customers but assist the company is attaining its growth targets over the next 10 years. He said developers – to meet customers’ growing needs and tastes – have to stay in the necessary nutrition recommendations. He did not give any additional details on the company’s new menu offerings.
In 2012, Taco Bell presented customers with its Cantina burrito bowls line to ensure it stayed in competition with competitor Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. The “fresco options”, which are a lower-calorie option to some of its foods, was introduced in 2005 and do not have any cheese or sour cream on them. These account for approximately two percent of all Taco Bell sales.
