Teenage Florida Girl Killed On Bus Minutes From School, Male Student In Custody
A 13-year-old Florida girl was shot to death on her school bus; an unidentified male student is in police custody for the murder.
Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade County police detective, said the situation is traumatic for all on board the bus including the dead girl’s seven-year-old sister.
It’s not known how many times the girl was shot; but, she was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Miami, where she died from the injuries she sustained. Officers were on scene looking for clues and getting together the students’ belongings.
Police have not released much information regarding the situation including what sparked the deadly bus shooting, which occurred around 6:45 a.m. and minutes from the school. The shooting took place on a private bus that drops off both elementary and middle school kids to three schools.
Police think one of the students brought the gun onboard but nothing has been stated if the shooting was deliberate or an accident. The gun was retrieved at the scene, and all students and the bus driver were transported to the homicide unit where police have begun questioning students about the events. The bus has no surveillance camera.
Grief counselors were sent to the 13-year-old school – Palm Glades Preparatory Academy – to counsel students.
